Sajjad Gani Lone is a Kashmiri politician, the youngest son of Abdul Ghani Lone, who was killed in a rally in Srinagar.[1] After the death of his father, Sajjad Lone became the chairman of People's Conference.[2]
In the 2009 Indian general election he stood as an independent candidate in Baramulla, becoming the first separatist leader to stand in a general election in Jammu and Kashmir in 20 years. .[3] He was defeated by the National Conference candidate Sharifuddin Shariq.[4]
Thrown abruptly into politics in a conflict zone and bereft of guiding father figure Sajjad Lone's learning curves in politics are harsh derivatives of mistakes. Sajjad Lone is a Kashmiri leader who aspires dignity and peace for his besieged land and has consistently proven his intellectual dexterity through his objective approaches to complex issues within the political arena of Kashmir.
